Competitors from the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Championships from Asia, North America and Europe race together over one weekend to determine a World Champion.
After finishing his domestic championship with a podium Elias was determined to continue his current form shown in his first event outside of North America but some technical issues would hamper his performance.
Race one of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo World finals took place on Saturday at Jerez, Spain with a grid of 42 cars. Qualifying didn’t go to plan for Elias De La Torre IV as he was blocked by traffic on his flying laps consequently qualifying in P28 for race 1 and P17 for race 2.
As the huge field took the green flag Elias immediately moved into P23 but a safety car was required at the end of the lap to remove a car from the gravel. Racing resumed on lap3 and by lap 7 Elias was involved in a six-car nose to tail battle but an intermittent brake problem was hindering his progress. Still with good pace he kept pushing until the pit window opened on lap 10 and Elias pitted straightaway to get out of the traffic. Rejoining the race into clean air Elias set about making up time but another safety car on lap 15 interrupted proceedings. The race resumed on lap 18 and Elias moved into P22 until a 4-car incident directly in front of him at turn 10 meant he had to take avoiding action to miss the spinning cars, this elevated him into P16. With not much of the race remaining it was impossible to move up any further. A post-race penalty for a competitor moved Elias into P15.
The second race of the World Finals took place on Sunday with Elias lining up P17 on the grid however as the cars were about to leave for the formation lap, spots of rain started to fall but luckily amounted to nothing. A good start saw Elias hold position but an accident towards the end of the first lap saw the safety car deployed and Elias elevated to P15. The race resumed on lap 4 with Elias being nudged back to P16, Elias had also picked up some heavy front damage which was causing some engine cooling issues until when on lap 6 a rain shower past through causing a full course yellow to slow down the slick shod cars. The slower speed was now becoming a huge problem with the car now overheating, going into limp mode and also causing a gear downshift problem. Luckily the pit window opened as the track went green allowing Elias to make his mandatory pit stop. During the stop the team carried out some repairs which allowed Elias to rejoin the race. After all the cars had made their stops, Elias had dropped to P26 due to some time lost in the Pitstop but by lap 24 he had moved into P24, unfortunately time ran out and he was not able to improve any further.
