Double Points for De La Torre at Road Atlanta

The penultimate round of the Porsche Carrera Cup North America took place this week at Road Atlanta and following a successful test the week before Elias De La Torre IV was hopeful of a good result in the #4 JDX-HCB Yachts Porsche.

With a red flag interrupted qualifying session on Thursday Elias manage to put the #4 in P6 for race 1. Elias held position at the start but was nudged back to P7 at the end of the lap and was now in an 8-car breakaway group fighting for position until the safety car was deployed on lap 6 for an incident at turn 10. After a lengthy clean up the race resumed on lap 12 with just 16 minutes remaining. Holding position at the start Elias was now in an intense 4 car battle but had also picked up a slow puncture which was drastically affecting the handling of the car, with the car deteriorating over the final laps Elias managed to salvage P10 at the flag.

Starting from P9 in race 2 on Friday Elias got a good start and managed to hold his position on the frantic first lap but on lap 4 he was squeezed back into P10. On lap 7 Elias passed the #8 to take back P9 however it was soon apparent that changes to the car set up overnight had not worked and Elias was soon struggling for pace. Unable to advance any further up the field Elias had to settle for P9 at the flag but still securing valuable championship points.

The final round of the Porsche Carrera Cup North America will be at the Circuit of the Americas, Texas supporting the Formula 1 Grand Prix on October 19 & 20
